Simulasi merupakan perumpamaan dari suatu kejadian yang sebenarnya dalam maket kecil, namun operasionalnya sudah menggambarkan kejadian yang sebenarnya. Simulasi jaringan komputer (LAN) yang sampai ke internet dapat disimulasikan menggunakan sebuah software gratisssss yaitu Packet Tracer yang terbaru kayaknya 53;. Untuk mendemostrasikannya harus disediakan terlebih dahulu komputer baik PC atau taplet atau notbook atau netbook atau dll. Klu tidak punya silahkan download dulu.
Berikut ini langkah install Packet Tracer53 di Ubuntu 10.10 :
1. Download dulu packet tracertnya di websitenya : http://195.148.217.80/Public/Cisco/Programs/PacketTracer/Linux/Ubuntu/ , nama file nya PacketTracer53_i386_installer-deb.bin (ada juga yang Tar.Gz).
2. klu download pake Ubuntu masuk di \home\download dan klu pakek windows c:\mydocument\download
3. pindahkan (copy) ke \opt melalui terminal di ubuntu :
ketik : sudo su (untuk masuk sebagai root)
dari folder asal (dimana anda download tadi) ketik : cp PacketTracer53_i386_installer-deb.bin \opt
4. Trus masuk ke opt dan ganti permission file nya.
cd \opt
chmod 755 PacketTracer53_i386_installer-deb.bin
5. Setelah itu ekstrak dan instal packet nya.
./PacketTracer51_i386_installer-deb.bin

6. Ikuti aja apa maunya..... dengan menekan Enter kemudian spasi saja sampai abis. Setelah muncul :

7. Jawab dengan menekan Y enter, tunggu hingga proses instalasi selesai.
6. Untuk menjalankannya masuk di Applications -> Internet -> Packet Tracert 53
